13-16 April 2014
Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Studies (STIAS)
Welcome Message from the Chairperson of the Organising Committee
Dear Friends and Colleagues
It is with great pleasure that we announce the 42nd Anatomical Society of Southern Africa (ASSA) Conference 2014 to be hosted by the University of Stellenbosch. The Division of Anatomy and Histology, Department of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences would like to extend a warm invitation on behalf of ASSA to all our local and international colleagues. The conference will take place at the Wallenberg Research Centre @ STIAS (Centre for Advanced Studies) in the historic and picturesque university town of Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa from Sunday 13 April to Wednesday 16 April 2014. Since the town of Stellenbosch is situated amongst many world-renowned wine farms, we have decided to make the theme of our conference “Cultivated Anatomy ASSA 2014”!
The ASSA conference serves as a platform where researchers and teachers of anatomy from South Africa and other southern African countries meet on an annual basis in order to present their research, exchange ideas and forge new research contacts. We are also excited that the ASSA conference annually attracts researchers and co-workers from Europe and the USA. We hope that this year will be no exception and that we will have many delegates joining us in Stellenbosch in 2014.
As in the past, the conference will cover such aspects as clinical anatomy, comparative anatomy, neuroanatomy, developmental biology, physical and forensic anthropology, and medical education relating to the teaching of morphological sciences. The programme will consist of a two half day preconference symposia, CASIG (Clinical Anatomy Interest Group) and FASIG (Forensic Anthropology Interest Group) as well as a full day Cell and Developmental Biology Symposium, on Sunday 13 April followed by a two-and-a-half day academic programme from Monday 14 to Wednesday 16 April 2014 which will comprise of free papers and poster sessions. A technical workshop will be conducted on Monday 14 April 2014.
We therefore invite you to submit abstracts on the website in any of these categories and to register timeously. Ultimately, the success of the conference depends on the scientific contributions of all our delegates and we therefore hope that our colleagues will join us from far and wide to make this “Cultivated Anatomy ASSA 2014” conference a memorable experience!
As usual, our conference encourages our young researchers and students to participate and for that reason, ASSA has provided a limited studentship opportunity for full-time students under the age of 25. (Click here for more details).
